The Santa Fe College Saints softball team, coached by former University of Florida Gator, Lindsay Fico, has certainly reversed their fortunes over last season. So far this season, the Saints have an undefeated record of 6-0. Last season, the Saints struggled early with a 0-4 start.
According to Fico, one significant reason for the team's improvement has been the play of the freshman class, which includes Aucilla Christian Academy graduate Ashlyn Rogers.
“This freshman class is making a significant impact,” said Fico. “In fact, most of the starters on this season's squad are freshman which, so far, bodes well for the future.” Rogers has earned a starting position for the Saints.
“[Ashlyn] is starting at third base, but she could very well catch for us at some point,” said Fico. “She [Rogers] is certainly strong enough to play the position.” Rogers has a .250 batting average so far this season with one RBI and two runs scored. Rogers has a .778 fielding percentage after five games played.
“[Ashlyn is] going to do great things this year,” said Fico.
Ashlyn Rogers is the daughter of Lee and Ansley Rogers, both of Madison County.
