On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Frankie L. (McCranie) Cook entered eternal rest. Frankie was born in Berlin, Ga., on November 2, 1937. She was the oldest child of Tom and Adelle McCranie who were sharecroppers. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas David (Tom) and Sarah Adelle (Thomas) McCranie, her husband Samuel, and her daughter Lynette. She grew up in Coolidge, Ga., and attended Coolidge Elementary and High School where she lettered on the girls’ basketball team. She graduated from High School in 1954 and later joined the US Army where she attained the rank of Sergeant as a dental hygienist. She completed basic at Fort McClellan, Ala. and was later stationed at Fort Myers, Va. That is where she met Samuel Cook who would become her husband of 51 years. She was discharged from the Army in 1958. She and Sam were married in 1960. While Sam remained in the Army, they moved to different Army posts in Europe and the United States. They would have four children: David, Keith, Lynette, and Brian. When Sam retired from the Army they moved to the Orlando, Fla., area to begin their new life. They purchased their first house on Oxalis Avenue where they would raise their children. Sam took a job with a local defense contractor and Frankie worked at the Country Club of Orlando and maintained the household. They retired in Orlando. By 1996 they sold their home in Orlando and moved to a new home in Monticello, Fla., where they would live out their days together. Frankie is survived by her sons, David Cook of Kansas City, Mo., Keith Cook of Monticello, Fla., and Brian Cook of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Her brothers and sisters, Claudia Bundrick of Columbia, SC, Rema McCranie of Coolidge, Ga., Raymond McCranie of Chatsworth, Ga., Tommie Pettigrew of Leesville, S.C., Charles McCranie of Thomasville, Ga., and Carolyn Hoechst of Eutis, Fla. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be cremated, and a graveside service of remembrance will be held at Big Creek Cemetery at Big Creek Baptist Church, Coolidge, Ga., November 5, 2022.
