Fraud alert causes county accounts to be frozen

In the wake of the recent arrest of Clerk of Court Kirk Reams and two accomplices for alleged fraud and other theft-related crimes, another fraud issue surfaced at the Jefferson County Commission meeting on Thursday evening, Sept. 20.
The issue apparently involved numerous county employees not getting their paychecks because the bank had frozen the county’s accounts.
Will Davis, market president for The First Bank, addressed the board on the issue, telling the commissioners that he was there to answer questions about the incident and provide options that they might want to consider in order to prevent a repetition of the problem.
