School will be starting in a few days, and I'm pleased to announce that Jefferson County native son, Sam Madison, Jr., will be offering his annual free haircuts to young men of early childhood and preschool through high school age, as well as school supplies.
The Madison Avenue for Kids Foundation, Inc. has been giving back to the community Sam calls home and the community he resides in since 2003. The haircuts and school supplies giveaway was initiated in 2008.
Traditionally, the 29th recipient receives the general school supplies and a backpack filled with personal items and supplies, in recognition of Sam's Dolphins' and New York Giants football playing number.
Customarily, 50 haircuts were offered until last year, when 50 additional cuts were offered, thanks to another Jefferson County native son and Sam's fellow Miami Dolphins staff member, Kendrick Norton, Jr., who made the donation 100 haircuts.
This is a “first come first served” event. Barber Kendrick “Wolf” Norton, Sr., will begin cutting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Jefferson Teen Center, located on Tiger Lane off Water Street, near the Harry Jacobs track and softball field.
For further information, contact Coordinator Mary Madison (Sam's mom) at (850) 210-7090 or Norton Sr. at (850) 251-1606.
