Dear Tiger Fans,
Boy this 2022-23 season of high school athletics is just flying by! Let me bring you up to date on a number of exciting things happening at your Jefferson K-12. Winter playoffs are underway for boys and girls soccer as well as boys and girls basketball. I am proud to say that all four of our teams reached the districts. Our shining star has been the girls soccer team. They took a strong 11-4-2 record into the playoffs and, though they lost over the weekend in Gainesville, they went farther than any past team. Our boys soccer team won at regionals and are headed to the semifinals! We take our hats off to Coach Blambie Fils and her soccer teams for a fabulous season.
Both our boys and girls basketball teams are headed to the district playoffs. Our girls team has shown much improvement under the leadership of first year Head Coach Trey Thomas. And check this out, there are no seniors on the team. Their future is bright. Our boys team may finish second in our district grouping. The first place team is Franklin, and we would love a re-match with them in the finals. We are saying goodbye to four wonderful seniors and guys I have truly enjoyed coaching: Haven Francis, Rico Murray, Jevon Pettway and Carl Schuler. For special note, Coach Lenorris Footman is very hopeful that Mr. Pettway will land a full college scholarship for football.
I have only been here for half a year, but I can tell the folks of Monticello that our school administration is making great strides at Jefferson. I can’t wait for year two, and I look forward to being your Athletic Director for years to come. Our spring sports teams of girls softball, boys baseball and boys and girls track are practicing hard and are getting ready to roll. Be well and be safe.
GO TIGERS!
