Call me optimistic
Call me optimistic, but I still believe in the USA. I still believe in one nation under God. In God I still trust. I believe our founding leaders trusted and depended on God when they made and adopted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
Several days before the signing of the Declaration of Independence 244 years ago, Benjamin Franklin addressed President George Washington and delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Penn. Part of his address included the following:
“All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor… And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance?”
“We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age.”
Because of their trust, God blessed us as a nation. I believe that if we remember to trust and depend on God in our current pandemic situation, God will use us to make great things happen; and again, God will bless us as a nation.
Now, more than any other time, is a time for faith. It’s a time for God’s people to step up and step out to make a kingdom difference in our spheres of influence. “Each of us should use whatever gifts we have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV)
As Christians, we are called to serve our families. When it comes to serving our family, there’s no such thing as going too far. Make sure those you love know you’re there for them, even when they’re not there for you.
As Christians, we are called to serve those around us. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and interests that we lose sight of this. Work to understand their needs and then work to meet those needs.
As Christians, we are called to serve our God. Our God not only loves each of us with an everlasting love but He has placed within each one of us a calling to be a part of His mission and ministry in the setting where we currently reside. Are you living the “just get by” plan or might there be a much greater “God-calling” for you in your life that God wants you to do right now in the situations and challenges our community, nation and world is experiencing?
God’s calling for us to serve doesn’t just change the world, it makes a different world.
