Dear Friends,
I would bet I need not tell you that it feels as if 2023 is moving at rapid speed. We are a month into the new semester and some things are settling, some are still evolving. Regaining control of our school district just seven months ago was no small feat, and it will take time for new and improved systems to flow as planned and for operations at all levels to produce the exact outcomes we want.
As an update, let me share:
• All School District policies have been updated. This was a huge undertaking with NEOLA and it was needed. It had been at least 10 years since policies were updated. Updating of procedures is ongoing as legislative changes come out every few months.
• I am attending the All-Partner Institute for Florida Community Partnership Schools (CPS) this week. Our Core Partners on this initiative will be there as well, and I am especially interested in learning more about CPS models for addressing chronic absenteeism, teacher retention and engaging our entire community through working with families – topics we are continuously analyzing at the school level. I will update you with information from this conference next month.
• Jefferson County Schools’ funding reserves are at 5 percent. The state requires us to have 3 percent of our budget held in reserve, so we are in an excellent fiscal position. We continue to be fiscally responsible, something FDOE is watching very closely.
As always, I welcome your input and ideas. Please reach out to me at jcsdsuper@gmail.com with your questions and concerns.
