Dear Friends,
We are halfway through our first year of regained local control of Jefferson County Schools. Has it been challenging? Yes. Do I continue to learn each day? Of course. Have there been joys and triumphs as well as defeats? There have. Am I excited for 2023 and next semester? You bet!
Here’s why:
Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of School Improvement (BSI) continues to visit each week and they are pleased — even impressed — with our progress and commitment to students. In fact, there is some big news on that front: Jefferson County third graders are performing above state averages.
We continue to examine successes and challenges, and one thing we realized needs our focus and strategizing is supporting our juniors and seniors who are not on track to graduate. We have designed an alternate track to assist with meeting requirements to graduate on time or to help identify other viable options that lead to training and certifications.
We continue to build our team at the school. Mr. Jamaris Wilson came on board as Director of Transportation, and Mrs. Jennifer Burnum is Executive Assistant to Principal Jackie Pons. These additions will play key roles in streamlining processes and providing organization and oversight where needed. Jefferson County Schools continues to retain and recruit the very best.
I want you to know that I remain committed to the singular goal that drove me to run for Superintendent: to provide education options and a future full of hope, opportunity and prosperity for our students.
As always, I welcome you to reach out to me at jcsdsuper@gmail.com with your questions and concerns.
