Take a quick tour of your yard and you'll surely see a few spots that would come to life, literally, with a lush new shrub or bright patch of flowers. Find just what you need this Saturday, June 18, at the Plant Sale by the Founder's Garden Circle of Monticello. Buying plant stock at this sale will not only beautify your yard, but all proceeds will benefit many community projects and several scholarships to 4H summer camp.
The sale will take place on Saturday at the historic Wirick-Simmons House, located at the corner of North Jefferson and Pearl Street, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Stop by while you're downtown for the Watermelon Festival events.
Kaye Fearneyhough, who is organizing the sale, says that a wide variety of plants will be for sale. Annuals can be selected for either shady or sunny areas. Nectar flowers, which will attract butterflies and hummingbirds, include pagoda plants, fire spikes, bee balm, purple tubeflowers and milkweed. Blooming perennials will include day-lilies, angel trumpets, agapanthus, ginger lilies, Philippine violets and dwarf alamanda. There will also be a large assortment of succulents.
If you need houseplants, you'll find clivia, anthurium and angelwing begonias for sale. Plants can be purchased with cash or checks, but not by credit card.
The Monticello Garden Club has two circles: Founder's and Magnolia. Both meet monthly (with different days and times) from September thru May, enjoying many interesting programs and field trips. Find out more about the Monticello Garden Club when you stop by the Plant Sale on Saturday.
