George Edward Grek, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 26, 2021. He was born January 30, 1944, in Somerville, New Jersey and moved to Florida in 1971 where he met his wife of 47 years, Anna LaVerne Clark. He was a dedicated Publix employee for the better part of 40 years where he met many friends that evolved into family.
He loved spending time with family and friends through the means of camping and attending baseball games, as well as attending classic car shows. He was an avid FSU football fan. He enjoyed several hobbies including cycling, wood carving and coin/model train collecting.
He is survived by his wife, Anna (Vern); their daughter, Renee of Sarasota, Fla.; their son, Randy (Tamara) of Monticello, Fla.; four grandchildren: Randy (Ashley), Clark, Taylor (Nathan) and Madison; as well as four great-grandchildren: Cade, Savannah, Colt, and Emmy. He is also survived by his sister, Gail, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: George E. Grek, Sr. and Adalaide Louise Hinkle, sister: Jean Sargent; and brother: David Grek.
Celebrations of Life will be held in Monticello on July 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 49, 1065 S. Water St. A second celebration of life will take place in Sarasota, Fla. on August 7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Big Bend Hospice or Publix Charities.
