Jefferson County K-12 Community Partnership School (JCS) is hosting the annual Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 50 David Rd. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To prepare local youth for the upcoming school year, the event offers the opportunity for students to get their class schedules, pre-stuffed backpacks, free immunizations and haircuts, meet faculty members and much more at the resource fair.
As the new school year arrives, so does the stressors associated with it — for parents, the cost of buying new supplies, clothes and footwear, and the more technical details like paperwork and keeping up-to-date on their children's required vaccines. For students, it can be anxiety over being unfamiliar with locations like their new classroom, not knowing their new teacher, worrying if they have the right supplies and wondering if they will be able to look their best. To help both parents and students go forward feeling confident and prepared, this community event is intended to involve, orient and provide resources.
Students will be able to find their classrooms, meet faculty members, get their class and bus schedules, receive free haircuts, immunizations and shoes (while supplies last), meet with career advisors, visit Student Services sign up for FOCUS Student Software. Additionally, parents can sign up for the Parent Teacher Organization and meet with faculty, and all can visit the resource vendors, receive Second Harvest food distributions while supplies last and more. The event's listing on JCS's website says that “this free community celebration is a great way to kick off the new school year and connect families with resources before the first day of school.”
This event is sponsored by many local individuals, groups and organizations. If any in the community would like to provide their support, JCS is requesting both monetary donations and volunteer assistance for the Back-to-School Bash. JCS encourages any who wish to support the event financially to donate online or mail a check to 220 John Knox Rd., Suite 2, Tallahassee, Fla., 23303.
