Who doesn't love BBQ?
On Saturday, November 3, the 4th Annual Jefferson County BBQ Festival will be held, with the focus – as the name suggests – being on a variety of types and styles of BBQ.
There will be vendors, a pie baking contest, corn hole tournaments, and a beer garden with a viewing of college football games.
The spotlight of the festival, however, will be the BBQ Contest that will challenge local and visiting participants to cook up chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.
Applicants will be judged on their presentation, tenderness and taste and there will be a winner selected in each category, as well as a grand champion whose BBQ will best reflect all three categories.
This year's BBQ Chefs will be vying for the $5,000 cash prize and a one-of-a-kind trophy.
In addition to the BBQ contest, there will be a People's Choice Contest, where each contestant team will be given a 8-10 pound Boston Butt to BBQ and place before the people, who will choose the best BBQ at their own discretion.
The baking contest will pit the best pies and cakes of Jefferson County against each other. Bakers with secret family recipes tucked in the cookbook are invited to come out and compete for the 50/50 cash prize.
In addition to all this fun, there will also be an antique car show, a greased pig chase, and various arts and craft vendors.
And of course, what southern gathering would exclude a corn hole tournament? Not this BBQ
festival!
The Corn Hole Tournament will begin at 7 p.m., and contestants will compete for cash prizes. The first place winner will receive $200, second place will receive $100 and third place will receive $50.
The 4th Annual Jefferson County BBQ Festival will be held at 380 N. Cherry St., behind Rancho Grande, from 3-9 p.m.
