Great native plants to use

As the summer simmers down, I would like to highlight a very showy, evergreen, native shrub: the Southern bayberry or wax myrtle, Morella cerifera. This amazing plant provides a lovely screen and if allowed, will get quite tall, depending on high you want your natural screen to be. It tolerates pruning well, and its lush foliage can be picked to use in soups and stews in place of bay leaves.
