On Friday, July 27, the Harvest Center Enrichment Program held its End of the Summer Enrichment Program within the Jefferson Somerset cafeteria.
The program was an opportunity for the children in the program to demonstrate the poems, songs, praise dances and daily words that they had learned throughout the summer to their families, and for the volunteers who the program depends on in order to be a success year after year.
The Harvest Center program is an annual summer camp that is hosted by the Tri-County Ministries Inc., of Monticello.
The program operates at no cost to the families who participate.
This year, the program began on June 5, and ended on July 27.
Throughout the summer, the children were able to engage in athletic and team-building sports, learn to recite poems, songs and a Word of the Week and practiced praise dances.
During the End of the Summer program, the children recited their poems, sang their songs and performed their praise dance for their parents and families.
Championship Trophies were also granted to the children and teen volunteers who had made an impact on the sports field.
Both adult and teenaged volunteers alike were honored for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the summer program.
Tomura Mathis provided a solo musical performance for the event and Jonathan Youngblood recited a special poem.
At the end of the program, a backpack giveaway was held for the students who were in attendance for the evening; the donated backpacks were given away to elementary and middle/high school grade students.
