Alexcia Dean has been employed with the Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) since November 2019. She is currently the Students Working Against Tobacco (S.W.A.T.) Coordinator in the Tobacco Free Prevention Program; a program she was very much involved with during her years as a middle and high school student.
Dean enjoys working at the JCHD and likes the professionals that she works with. Her job position allows her to work with different people almost daily.
Because she was S.W.A.T. president several times during her school days, she has been able to use that experience now as SWAT coordinator.
Her goal thus far is to pass a policy in the area for a Tobacco Free Sports League for the Jefferson County Recreational Park.
Dean is a 2015 graduate of Jefferson County High School. After graduating, she attended North Florida Community College (NFCC) on a two-year scholarship. Her study was biology. Dean was also a member of the Young Engineers Club.
“I like that we're putting Alexcia to work back into the community,” says her co-worker, Pam Beck. “She grew up here, and she did well here. She knows a lot of people and she's familiar with the school and the kids.”
Her supervisor Chastity McCarthy adds, “Alexcia is an asset to this community and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program that will empower Jefferson County youth to avoid tobacco products.”
Dean is a Florida State University (FSU) graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Med Biology, and Double Minors in Chemistry and Interdisciplinary Science. She transferred to FSU after NFCC.
Dean shares, “I always wanted to be a doctor and be an OBGYN when I was growing up.”
Her free time is spent reading books; she especially likes medical books. Her favorite one so far that she has read is “Trauma: My Life as an Emergency Surgeon,” by James Cole. She also helps her mother with her catering business, Milly's Ann Catering Service.
She is the daughter of Greg and Sheree Williams of Monticello.
