Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) is the Republican nominee for vice president. He just turned 40 a few weeks ago so he is quite young, elected to public office for the first time just two years ago. Still, in only four decades, he has done a lot and come a long way. In 2016, Harper published his book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture Crisis. This was years before he entered politics. Hillbilly Elegy quickly shot up to become number 1 on the NY Times best seller list and was subsequently made into a NETFLIX movie directed by Ron Howard that was quite popular.
