All middle and high school students who live in Jefferson County are eligible to enter an essay contest sponsored by the Keystone Federated Republican Women (KFRW). This year's topic asks students to examine the divide between Patriots and Loyalists during the Revolutionary War. Should there be separation and independence or should they remain British subjects?
Essay writers should imagine themselves living during the time frame of April of 1775, just after the battles at Lexington and Concord, either as a prosperous Boston businessman or a Quaker farmer near Philadelphia.
Essays have specific requirements, must be postmarked no later than Mar. 31, 2022, and sent to Keystone Federated Republican Women, P.O. Box 45, Monticello, Fla. 32345.
Interested students can obtain detailed information about the topic and guidelines from their local public school, private school or home school association, all of which have already received the contest announcement. The contest packet also can be downloaded from the KFRW website: kfrwfl.org/club-events/2022-kfrw-essay-contest/.
