Troy University Trojan's very own Kelly Horne has been named to the College Sports Information Directors Academic (CoSIDA) All-District First Team. Horne represented the Trojans on the District Four squad, including schools from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.
The award honors student-athletes who have performed well academically while regularly competing for their institution. It has been given to male and female athletes since 1952. The program selects an honorary sports team composed of the most outstanding student-athletes of a specific season for positions in various sports.
Horne, an Aucilla Christian Academy class of 2017 graduate, has proven that she does not just knock them out of the park but buckles down in the classroom as well. Horne graduated this May with a 3.83 GPA and her Bachelor's in sports management and minor in business administration. Horne is coming back this fall to start her master's program. While in the master's program, she will finish her two years of eligibility playing for the Trojans in the diamond. After her master's, she hopes to apply with a university and then become a professor within the next three to five years.
Horne set Troy's single-season on-base percentage record (.495) and also ranks inside the top-10 in doubles, RBIs, batting average, slugging percentage (.655) and walks (32), showing that she is not just a scholar but a dominant athlete as well.
She gives thanks to her parents for standing behind her and supporting her to make her dreams come true. Horne believes without them or God, none of this would be possible.
