
Hold fast the form of sound words
Paul writes to Timothy in the New Testament (2 Tim. 1:13) to keep preaching the same doctrine he had received from Paul and other apostles. Paul writes, “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Chris Jesus.”
In this passage, Paul gives a command: Hold fast the form, follow the pattern, retain the standard… but what was the young evangelist to keep, retain or hold? The answer is sound words or teaching. But how would he know the “sound”? The answer: “which thou hast heard of me.”
