The Jefferson County Homeschool Association is seeking sponsors and donations for their new Robotics Team. The Lego Robotics course is open to ages nine to 14, and is a fun, creative way to teach students about coding. Students in teams build robotic vehicles, and learn how to program them on a computer to move along a track, and follow a determined course or complete a certain directional task. Classes like this help students become fluent in coding concepts earlier on that can be harder to learn in later ages. Coding is an integral part of today's technologically-infused society, and is considered to be basic literacy for kids growing up in today's modern world. It is important for children to both understand and be able to work with the technology that surrounds them in their daily lives. Coding is also proven to help students with communication, creativity, mathematics, and writing.
The Jefferson County Homeschool Association is currently applying for grants to support their Robotics course, and is looking for donations and sponsors from the community that will enable them to have the funding to participate in several competitions. If students place well in a qualifying competition in Jan., 2022 they can then proceed to regional, state and worldwide competitions. The Homeschool Association would love to see our Jefferson County kids go as far in these competitions as possible! “Since we are just starting out, the sponsor's money would go towards building the team basics,” Says JCHA President Tammy Brookins, “A dedicated team laptop, (so we aren't using the coach's personal one), tablets for the team to run the programming of the robot, and the building supplies, uniform shirts, and swag bags/gifts for the other teams at competitions. Sponsors will get their business/names on our shirts, swag bags and any printed materials we make.”
If you would like to sponsor or leave a donation contact Tammy Brookins at (850) 210-3653.
