On Thursday, Dec. 10, the members of Jefferson County Homeschool Association, Inc. (JCHAI) held a short Christmas play at the Monticello Opera House.
The play was titled “The Good News Flash” by David Cook and was about a group of reporters who were trying to find a big scoop in Bethlehem for their newspaper, “The Bethlehem Times.”
For a quickly put together play, the kids did really well and it was a very fun way to tell the well known Christmas story. Caitlin Roberts directed the show and was the one who initiated the idea. She approached Tammy Brookins, another homeschool mom in JCHAI, and asked if they were doing anything for Christmas. Once they realized they weren't, they decided that they could put something together quickly. “If you start something now, you can always have time to plan it better next year,” Roberts said. So they ordered a play book that was full of plays you could do with only one rehearsal and set to work.
Though the cast did a bit more than one rehearsal, they put together and put on a wonderful play in a short amount of time, complete with some traditional Christmas songs such as “The First Noel”, “Away in a Manger” and more.
The crowd was filled with family and friends and the kids seemed to have a great time telling the story of the “best news ever told.”
