Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR) responded to a house fire in the Lamont area in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 31. Around 1:20 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call in reference to a house that was on fire. JCFR Chief Burrus, Engine 1, Tanker 1 and two Rescues arrived on scene shortly after the call was dispatched.
Upon arrival crews confirmed that the occupants were out of the home and there were no visible flames, but smoke was coming from the roof and eves. JCFR extinguished the fire and ensured there were no hot spots in the home before cleaning up and clearing the scene.
The resident stated that she was charging a vape pen with a modified charger in the living room when she exited the home for a second and returned to find flames and smoke. She grabbed her baby and ran to the neighbors to call 911.
