John Wesley was an English minister, theologian, and evangelist who was a leader of a revival movement within the Church of England known as Methodism. The small group meetings he founded became the dominant form of Christian growth experience that continues to this day. The Methodist movement was not a church at the start, and was not meant to replace regular church attendance but to be in addition to it. The early Methodists offered several types of groups to help Christians become better followers of Jesus.
The Society Meeting was where believers would gather each week for instruction and preaching from John Wesley, Francis Asbury, or another early leader.
