Few historic school buildings remain in Jefferson County. The ones that do remain often only have whispers of history to be uttered about them, as most information has been lost over time. There is one school, however, that is still alive and well in the minds and hearts of its alumni and members of the Monticello community—Howard Academy.
The buildings most people remember as Howard Academy are still standing, located on Chestnut Street, where the surviving alumni made cherished memories.
