The Jefferson County Kings of Spring Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will be holding its annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on Saturday, March 1, at The Homestead Barn, located at 519 White House Rd., in Monticello.
Last year, the banquet served over 140 guests. This year's banquet will include a bottomless-cup bar, a BBQ dinner, a silent auction, live auction and several raffles. Funds from the auction and raffles are raised to support NWTF's conservation work. During the evening, a $500 scholarship will be presented to a local high school senior.
According to the NWTF website, since it began in 1973, the NWTF has provided the foundation for wild turkey conservation throughout North America, pioneering not only research projects, but multimillion-acre restoration initiatives that help fuel their mission of conserving the wild turkey populations and preserving hunting heritage across America. Conservation continues to be the backbone and priority of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Together with their partners and volunteers, they strive to maintain clean waterways, healthy forests and wildlife habitats, resilient communities and what they describe as “robust” recreational opportunities. They follow the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation in an effort to conserve our natural resources and promote the necessary interplay between hunters and conservation.
This year's event is still accepting sponsors. Those interested in becoming a sponsor can call Hillary Hodges at (850) 556-6811. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for this year's banquet can be purchased on the NWTF website at nwft.org/events or at the Trophy Creek Outfitters location in Monticello.
