Hurricane facts you may not know

Rick Patrick ECB Publishing, Inc.  With two months remaining in the 2026 hurricane season, it’s never too late to learn something new about hurricanes. Here are some facts from the National Weather Service: • Typical hurricanes are about 300 miles wide, although their size can vary greatly, sometimes even twice that size. • The hurricane’s center (called the eye) is a relatively calm, clear area, usually 20-40 miles across. Many people make the mistake of venturing out while the
