“God frees our souls
Not from service, not from duty,
But into service and into duty.”
~Phillip Brooks
“…whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even [I] came not to be served but to serve others.”
~Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 20:27-28)
Porch de Salomon’s work and ministry benefited from scores of short-term team members who journeyed to Guatemala to serve with us last month. Our August PorchTalk newsletter is chock-full of their faces and places. It is our hope and prayer that many of them found freedom and growth both in that service and from our progressive ministry style.
Likewise, we trust that the indigenous families they served alongside also experienced breaths of freedom and hope from what our short-term teams did, from their open attitudes, and from what they brought. We always charge these families with the responsibility to, in turn, serve their neighbors.
Many of our readers have been freed “into service and into duty” of another sort: providing encouragement, prayers, and financial support to support Porch’s multi-faceted work. We thank God for that and we thank our mission partners for this invaluable support.
Melanie and I are stateside August 8 through October 11 for furlough/promo. We’d love to connect with you, your church, or group. Please contact me at dlloydmonroe@gmail.com or (850) 688-2076 if you’d like to touch base. Many thanks from Lloyd Monroe.
Thank you for being you. Rachael McGaha, Sharon Church (McDonough, GA.)
