Mrs. Ivie Pearl Stephens, born Hamrick, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, less than one month before her 106th birthday. Stephens was born in and lived all of her years in Monticello, Fla., on North Jefferson Street. She lived just down the road from the house where she was born in 1915.
The daughter of Mr. Burrell Hamrick Esq. and Mrs. Ivie Hamrick. Ivie Pearl was the last surviving of four siblings. Ivie Pearl was married to Mr. Jackson Stephens in 1946 who passed away in 1977. She worked in the Property Appraiser’s Office in Monticello’s iconic courthouse building for 56 years during which she became the Deputy Property Appraiser. She finally retired at 85 years old after 56 years of service to the county. Her greatest achievements, however, can be attested to by the love and commitment she showed to so many.
Stephens was preceded in death by her siblings, Burlene Finney, Dave Hamrick, Edith Dann and daughter, Lynda Peters. She is survived by her children, Annette Hill, Corinne Stephens and Jack Stephens Jr. (Christine); beloved nephew, Grigg Finney (Barbara) and son-in-law, Delano Peters. As well as her grandchildren; Stephen Hill (Olivia), Robyn Hampson (Matthew), Tony Stephens (Belinda), Edith Wray (Chuck), Joy Decker (Brandon), 8 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Ivie Pearl was loved by so many, none more than her daughter Corinne who, until her last breath, was by her side. Few can claim such dedication to a parent, assuredly her companionship and care kept Ivie Pearl with us just a little bit longer. May Ivie Pearl, Mama, Grandma, Granny rest in peace. Funeral arrangements were handled by Beggs Funeral Homes, Inc. Monticello Chapel.
