James “Jimmy” Lloyd Shiver, 80, of Monticello, Fla., passed away in Tallahassee, Fla., on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021. He was born July 26, 1941 on Government Farm Road in Jefferson County, Fla. Jimmy is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and served in the United States Coast Guard in St. Simons Island, Ga.
His lifelong passions include hunting, fishing, raising and training deer hounds. Many of his friends relate that everything they knew about hunting dogs they learned from Uncle Jimmy. He was a longtime member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and considered Jesus to be the Savior of his soul. He was active many years in Hiram Masonic Lodge #5, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Nobel Order of the Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Lloyd Shiver; mother, Verdie Lee Shiver, of Monticello, Fla.; and a grandson, Samuel Matthias Shiver, of Monticello, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lenafaye Shiver, of Monticello, Fla.; sons: Jim Shiver of Monticello, Fla.; Joe Shiver (Mandy), of Monticello, Fla;, Jeff Shiver, of Monticello, Fla.; Loomis Shiver (Amy), of Perry, Fla.; Justin Branch (Amber), of Tallahassee, Fla.; and daughter, Vicki Boland, of Monticello, Fla. Grandchildren: Ruthie Shiver, Angel Shiver, Hannah Neal, Kayla Neal, Chris Shiver, Aaron Shiver, J.D Shiver (Rebecca), Justin Clark, Jeremy Shiver, Nathan Shiver (Whitney), Amanda Thibeault (Todd), Albree Shiver, Addison Shiver, Jackson Branch, Caroline Branch, Drew Dickens, Hunter Boland, Tyler Boland and 5 great-grandchildren.
Private graveside service for immediate family only, with a memorial service for friends and family to be announced in the future. He will be laid to rest at Elizabeth Cemetery, Monticello, Fla. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021.
