James Kenneth Dooley passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, in Tallahassee, Fla., after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jim was the youngest of five children born to Joseph and Elizabeth Dooley in Louisville, Kentucky, on Aug. 6, 1941. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve for 34 years.
He married his wife, the former Martha Bayens, in 1964. They relocated to Tallahassee in 1969 where they raised their two children. They eventually settled in the Lloyd community in Jefferson County, Florida.
Jim graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from the University of Louisville. He was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Church for 52 years. Jim had many avid interests and hobbies including sailing, duck hunting, flying, wood working, sports cars, reading and gardening to name a few. He served as an officer and member of many organizations including Apalachee Bay Yacht Club, Experimental Aircraft Association and the Tallahassee Area Rose Society.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph (and wife Doris) and John, his sister Mary Hartley, and brother-in-law Jim Mueller.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha, daughter Paige (Loren Levy), son Patrick (Mary), grandchildren Ellorie and McIver Levy, Connor and Emiko Dooley, sister Ruth Mueller (Louisville), brother-in-law William Hartley (Sumter, SC) and sister-in-law Doreen Dooley (Louisville).
The family will receive visitors at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, on Monday, Oct. 11, from 4 - 7 p.m. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee. That will be followed by Military Honors at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway.
