James Lee Bassa, Sr.James Lee (Jim) Bassa, Sr.,age 99, of Delray Beach, was escorted away from the Delray Beach Medical Center by a flock of angels on January 10.
He was the oldest surviving native of Lloyd Fl., a retired heavy-equipment operator, a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Delray Beach, and a former member of the now-defunct Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lloyd. In 1933, at age 11, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while attending revival services, conducted by the Rev. O.C. Gibbs at Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Finally Mr. Bassa was a resident of Palm Beach County from 1949 to 2022 and an avid fan of baseball (having been labeled by many people as one of the most talented youth to ever play baseball in the Lloyd community!)
Harboring precious memories of him are his wife of 66 years, Annie Louise Range Bassa; a daughter and son, Janie Ellen Bassa Tolliver and James (Jimmy) Bassa, Jr., all of Delray Beach; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and 19 nieces and nephews, including his favorite niece, Rossa Bassa of Lloyd who composed his obituary.
Funeral services were held January 22, 12:00 noon, at the Church of The Palms in Delray Beach.
Stranghn & Son Funeral Home of Delray Beach was in charge of arrangements.
Rossa Bassa, Niece.
