On May 3, 2022, Jane Moore, age 82, of Madison, Fla., entered eternal life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on December 5, 1939, in Jefferson County Fla., as Sarah Jane Brock to Charles and Lessie Belle Brock. She was 1 of 10 children. Jane graduated from Jefferson County High School, and immediately began working for the Department of Education in Tallahassee, Fla. She then moved to Destin, Fla., where she built and owned a donut shop; despite knowing nothing about making or selling donuts. Because of her entrepreneurship spirit and unwavering tenacity, the Donut Hole remains a landmark and favorite gathering place to this day. While owning it, she would keep the shop open during hurricanes. Jane rode those storms out so that first responders would have some place to go for rest, fuel, and normalcy. She fiercely loved God, her country, and anyone serving it. She never missed a chance to thank anyone in the role of service to this country. Upon selling the Donut Hole she became the Planning and Zoning Director of Destin, Fla. During her 15-year tenure in this capacity, she was the “acting” City Manager on three occasions: a feat almost unheard of without a college education. In addition, Jane worked tirelessly to protect Henderson Beach, a pristine area of powdery white sand in Destin, from being developed. Again, her unrelenting tenacity paid off; because of her role as an activist, she was a major contributor to the existence of Henderson Beach State Park. After retirement, Jane and her husband, Reg, moved to Madison, Fla. During her time there she became an active member of Cherry Lake First Baptist Church. She quickly became a devoted steward in the church where she served as a class leader, choir member, and children’s Sunday school teacher. She had a particular passion for teaching children about Jesus and showering them with love. This is displayed throughout her life in her roles as a baseball coach, Girl Scout leader and especially her service to the church. Jane’s presence was considered an honor. She simply formed bonds that are irreplaceable for many. She was a “force” and leaves a legacy of inspiration to be greatly admired. She was a confidant to numerous people and an exemplary example of love and forgiveness. Though she had many successes in her life her most treasured role was lovingly supporting anyone who needed it. Her unconditional love was boundless. She strongly believed in “repurposing” things, an attribute ingrained from her mother, and not being wasteful (she built the Donut Hole from wood that was over 100 years old). Jane was colorful. She loved flowers, people, and laughter - lots of laughter. Jane was a loving mother and “Mamaw” to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Robert Reginald Moore; her parents: Charles and Lessie Belle Brock; 4 siblings: Lessie Bea, Charles, John, and Helen; stepson: Bill
Moore. She was survived by six children: Bobby Moore, Ben Moore, Jeff McDowell (Lisa), Richard McDowell (Sonia), Marcella Barnhill (Jeff), Michele Brantley (Scott). In addition, she leaves 10 grandchildren: Kasey Moore, Jeffery McDowell, Melissa McDowell, Nicole McDowell, Evan McDowell, Shawn Craig, Ashley Cope, Monica Whoolery, Dakota Ely, and Hunter Robinson; and 11 great-grandchildren: Tristan, Mason, Tanyiah, Nakia, Kimberly, Bailey, Desiree, Lucas, Aria, Ely, and Magnolia. Her 5 remaining siblings are Gene Brock, Betty Driggers, Jerry Brock, Gary Brock, and Emma Jewel (Julie) Withers. Equal among her survivors are the many, incredible family and friends she leaves behind. Jane's memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m., at Cherry Lake First Baptist Church, 1308 NW County Road 150, Madison Fla. Following the service, everyone is invited for lunch at Jane's home, at 2569 NE Cherry Lake Circle, Madison, Fla. If you plan to attend the luncheon, it would be helpful if you call or text Michele Brantley at (850) 491-9296. In lieu of flowers her final request is that donations be made to A Women’s Pregnancy Center in Madison, Fla.
