Most Jefferson County residents are familiar with the Wirick-Simmons House, headquarters of the Jefferson County Historical Association (JCHA). It was built in our town sometime between 1831 and 1833 as the home to Rev. Adam Wirick, and for nearly two centuries, it has stood. Though it experienced severe decay around the mid-20th century, determined citizens formed JCHA to save the home from destruction in the 1960s and preserve it for future generations. Presently, the house is the headquarters of JCHA, and it contains many important historical pieces of furniture and clothing that were donated by members of the community.
