Congratulations, Quantum Coders!
Thanks to an amazing coach and lots of hard work, this group of local homeschoolers had an outstanding performance on Saturday, Dec. 3, at
the North West Florida (NWFL) local
qualifying event for the First Lego League
(FLL) Robotics Challenge in Leon County. The team includes Spencer Best, Ansleigh Camper, Finn Feinberg, Cooper Harrell, Jake Peary, Lily Peary (mentor), Glen Hughes (coach) and Carly Peary
(co-coach).
It was the first official competition for any of
the kids, but this rookie team still brought home
the Breakthrough Award, which specifically recognizes a team that demonstrates achievement in all three components of the competition: Innovation Project, Core Values and Robot Game. This year the theme is global energy challenges. For more information, check out firstinspires.org.
For their Super-Charged Innovation Project, Quantum Coders researched and presented alternative materials for energy storage and ways to properly recycle and/or dispose of batteries. They incorporated the Core Values outlined by the League of innovation, discovery, inclusion, impact, teamwork, fun, Gracious Professionalism (TM), and Coopertition (TM).
Their robot is named Wall-E in honor of the lovable Pixar character that spends his days trying to clean up Earth for humans in the future. Wall-E and the Quantum Coders placed third overall in the Robot Games and will advance to the regional event in Niceville, Fla., on Feb. 25, 2023.
