JCS accelerated readers celebrate success

Sixty-nine students recently celebrated reaching their Accelerated Reader (AR) goals at Jefferson County K-12 – A Community Partnership School (JCS). Elementary Teacher Nicole Roddenberry, who heads up the AR program at JCS, explains that AR is an incentive program in which students choose stories of interest to them and read for leisure. Students set up goals for each nine-week period of the school year, usually to read seven to 10 books in that time, depending on their complexity. As students finish a book, they take a reading quiz, and if they score 80 percent or higher, that book counts toward the student's personal goal. Congratulations to
