The Jefferson Arts Gallery will be opening their March show for viewing this Saturday, March 6. The show is entitled “Native Wild,” and features paintings by the amazing Anne Hempel. The show opens at noon and will be available for viewing until 4 p.m. After that, you can view the exhibit during regular gallery business hours, which are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This show will be available until Saturday, April 3.
The artist, Anne Hempel, is relatively well known. All of her work is done on handcrafted wood panels that her husband builds for her. Many describe her work as making them feel happy, light and more connected to nature. The way she creates such feelings in her work is by applying multiple layers of thickened acrylic paint to create an impasto style that reflects light and adds expressiveness to her paintings, and using glazes and washes in between layers to build rich color and highlight the texture.
Hempel's studio is at her home, tucked away in the woods. Previously, she was a teacher, but she was determined to turn her love for art into a full-time business. She worked on the weekends and summers, painting furniture until she found the courage to leap from teacher to artist, then from painting on furniture to wood panels. She worked diligently on a small table on her back porch for over a year before investing in building a studio and buying an easel. This journey of turning her passion into a business has been worthwhile to her. Hempel loves her life.
Hempel graduated from Florida State University and has been a full-time professional artist for over a decade now. She is married and has a young daughter.
Again, the show opens tomorrow, Saturday, March 6, and will run throughout the month. Don't miss your chance to see beautiful pieces created by this distinguished artist.
