This August, the Jefferson County Adult and Teen CERT will be hosting Basic CERT training. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team, and it is an excellent way for members of the community to gain valuable, life-saving training on how to handle disasters and emergencies in their home towns. These training courses are free to the public, and anyone can join. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you must attend all courses and pass the examination to be certified.
• Classes will be held August 10, 12, 17, and 19. The final examination will be held on August 24.
• The class on August 10 will be on Disaster Medical Operations.
• The class on August 12 will be on Disaster Preparedness and CERT Organization.
• The class on August 17 will be on Fire Safety and Utility Control/ Light Search and Rescue.
• The class on August 19 will be on Disaster Psychology/CERT and Terrorism.
All four classes must be completed to take the final, which will consist of an examination and a disaster simulation course, with fire stop, first aid and search and rescue simulations. Once certification is complete, anyone wishing to continue training is welcome. All CERT training and education, including CPR training, is free as long as membership is active.
The Jefferson County Adult and Teen CERT hopes to see many new faces taking part in their training. For more information, please contact them at (850) 342-0211.
