The time has come for the Jefferson-Somerset Tigers football program to put the past behind them and look forward to the road of victory.
Last season, Somerset took one of their biggest hits, finishing the year out at 0-7 due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, after introducing their new head coach Ira Reynolds, hopes are high.
Reynolds went to high school at Lincoln, in the third graduating class. While in high school, Reynolds played for the Trojans, which led him onto the college path playing for Florida A&M. After college, Reynolds started his coaching career in 1987 at Lincoln. In 1992, he joined Harry Jacob's staff at FAMU High. In 2004, Reynolds became the head coach at FAMU High. He coached the Rattlers to a Class B state title in 2006, the program's fourth championship but the first since 1978.
Coach Reynolds started last season introducing a new offensive strategy, implementing the Wing T formation. With a quick, young team, the formation will only play to their strengths. The week after the May 21 jamboree, Coach Reynolds had his team out on the field going through drills for the upcoming season. Looking ahead, Coach Reynolds is predicting at least a 500 season, with hopes for even better.
With the upcoming season beginning soon, Somerset fans and family should keep their eyes peeled for the following players: Anthony Ivey, starting QB; Travis Keaton, defensive corner/ wide receiver; Jazovius "Jay" Hawkins, starting receiver/corner/return; Kamarrian Kin, half back/ outside linebacker; Devontry Hagan, offensive line/ outside linebacker/ defensive end; and Ryquez Williams, wide receiver/ defensive back.
All Jefferson County Tigers fans, come on out this season and support your local blue and orange!
