Jefferson County joins NACo’s Operation Green Light to express profound pride, gratitude and support for local veterans and service members.
The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners is proud to announce its participation in Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). From Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, Jefferson County government buildings will be illuminated in green to shine a light on the sacrifices, dedication and invaluable contributions of our nation’s veterans.
Operation Green Light serves as a visual gesture of support, letting former service members and their families know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported within our community.
“Jefferson County has an immensely proud tradition of military service,” said Ben White, chairman of the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners. “We hold deep respect for the men and women who have answered the call to protect our country and our freedom. Our veterans didn't just serve us while in uniform; they continue to serve our community every day as leaders, volunteers, neighbors, and business owners. Lighting our buildings green is a small token of our enormous gratitude and a symbol of our continued commitment to supporting them.”
“Operation Green Light is an opportunity for our entire county team and residents to demonstrate our unified appreciation,” said Jefferson County Manager Douglas Baber. “As military members transition back into civilian life, it is our responsibility as local government to ensure they know they are welcomed, valued, and fully supported. Joining this national movement highlights our commitment to helping our local veterans access the services and resources they have so honorably earned.”
Approximately 200,000 service members transition from military to civilian life across the United States each year. In addition to honoring service members, Operation Green Light aims to raise awareness about the essential resources and federal benefits available to veterans and their families at the local level through County Veteran Service Officers.
County administration encourages all residents, businesses, civic groups and community partners throughout Monticello and Jefferson County to join in honoring our veterans. Community members can participate simply by replacing one exterior light bulb with a green bulb in their porch, entryway or business display during the week of Veterans Day.
