The senior citizens and community members who attended the annual Mother's Day luncheon at the Jefferson Senior Citizens Center last Thursday, were treated to an event of ultimate grandeur. Guests were continually arriving and it was clear that the facility would soon reach capacity.
Executive Director, Mazie Glenn, who recently assumed the position in March, said that one of her missions is to bring a sense of class, glamour and style to the seniors. That goal was certainly achieved at the luncheon.
The event began with a short program where everyone was gathered in the day room. Most were impeccably dressed and some of the ladies even adorned church hats. After a prayer, the message was delivered by keynote speaker, Georgia Barker.
Once the applause had died down, everyone was ushered into the dining room which had been transformed into a purple, silver and white paradise. Crystal centerpieces, linen tablecloths, napkins and real silverware were focal points that dazzled and delightfully surprised almost everyone. The food was just as appealing as the ambience. This was a Mother's Day that few will ever forget and just one of the reasons why the Jefferson Senior Citizens Center is becoming a popular attraction in Monticello.
