Jefferson Somerset School is pleased to announce that Ryan Long has been named Valedictorian and Xander Ames has been named Salutatorian of the Class of 2021.
Valedictorian Ryan Long has earned a grade-point average of 4.164; completing AP courses, honors courses, and has received some college credits. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Robotics Club, and Future Farmers of America. He participated and won 3rd place for his business plan in the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. He received community scholarships from Altrusa, Edna B. Henry, Tri-County, Democratic Party, Jefferson County Teacher’s Credit Union, Rotary, and Ivey Connections Incorporated Success Scholarship. Ryan will attend Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University this fall.
Xander Ames is the Salutatorian for Jefferson Somerset, as well as the Sunshine State District Scholar for the years 2020 and 2021. He was the founding member and president of the Robotics Club Team Saber. He is graduating with his Associates Degree from Doral College with a GPA of 4.092. He has earned various adobe certifications including Flash, Animate, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator. He is a valued member of the National Honor Society since middle school and has held various offices including Vice President, Sergeant at Arms, and in his final year of High School, President. He has been selected as the recipient of the Kantner Foundation Scholar award as well as Bright Futures. He was recently accepted into FAMU and plans on attending in the fall. During college he plans to earn a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
“We are so proud of Ryan and Xander for achieving the titles of valedictorian and salutatorian,” said Jefferson Somerset School Principal, Mr. Cory Oliver. “Their devotion to learning, hard work, and perseverance has led them to excel in Jefferson Somerset School during this very challenging year of the pandemic, and it delights us to recognize them for achieving such high honors. These two young men are incredibly well-rounded. We wish them well. They will be missed at Jefferson Somerset School.”
