U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (Retired) Jimmy Leonard Demps Jr., a proud veteran of the United States Army, went home to be the Lord on July 27, 2022.
Jimmy is the son of Jimmie Sr. and the late Frances Demps. He was born on Jan. 12, 1963, in Marianna, Fla., where he grew up, and his family later moved to Monticello, Fla. Jimmy confessed Christ at an early age and later joined Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello, Fla.
A service honoring the life Sgt. (Ret.) Jimmy L. Demps Jr. will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Fla. 32311 on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. with military honors and the interment immediately following the service. Public viewing will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Hagan Funeral Service located at 175 N. Railroad St., Monticello, Fl., (850) 997-1300 from 3 to 6 p.m.. A wake service will be from 5 to 6 p.m.

Jimmy attended public school systems in Jackson and Jefferson counties. Jimmy graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1981. At the age of 18, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1981. He valued this service for eight years and attained the rank of Sergeant.
The United States Army recognized Jimmy for proudly completing and receiving the following military honors for his honorable services: Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, M-16 Rifle (Marksman), Hand Grenade (Expert), Army Lapel Button and Joint Service Commendation.
Jimmy was a former employee of Advance Auto Parts and Publix Supermarket. Jimmy was an avid youth athlete in basketball and football and received many awards for his athletic performances. He enjoyed reading the bible and texting his friends.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories, his father Jimmie L Demps Sr.; two brothers, Dextrix (Andrea) Demps and Darryl (Lesha) Demps; fiancé, LaTonya Snelling; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Frances Britt Demps.
