Joan Davis Linn of Monticello, Fla. passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2021 at the age of 84. Joan was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, beloved sister and treasured friend. She enjoyed traveling and camping, studying her family genealogy, baking and collecting favorite recipes, and playing games and puzzles. Joan was a life-long member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. She was a member of several organizations to include the Monticello Garden Club, Jefferson County Historical Society, Keystone Genealogical Society and United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC).
Joan was a devoted Navy wife to her husband of 63 years, J. Birney Linn. Together they traveled across the United States visiting historical sites and natural wonders along the way. Joan enjoyed visiting Dekle Beach where six generations of her family have spent summers. Joan was a faithful steward of family history, maintaining volumes of family historical documents and genealogical records. She relished in discovering new cousins and learning the stories of her ancestors.
Joan is survived by her husband; J. Birney Linn; her four children: Elizabeth (Lester) Lawrence, James B. Linn, III, Carolyn (John) Cooksey and Michael (Cherri) Linn; her seven grandchildren: Samantha Strickland, Paul ‘Tony’ Cooksey, Nicholas Cooksey, Aaron Lawrence, Morgan Linn, Ryan Linn and Reese Linn; her seven great-grandchildren: Spencer and Sutton Strickland, Ava, Lyla and Emma Cooksey and Noah and Reed Cooksey, all of Jefferson County; her brother: Clarence (June) Davis of Tallahassee, Fla.; her sister: Jhan (Jim) Reichert of Monticello, Fla.; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her eighth great-grandchild, Bailey Lawrence is expected to be born this month.
Services for Joan will be at Roseland Cemetery on Madison Street in Monticello, Fla. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 1 p.m. Beggs Funeral Homes, Monticello Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
