Some of you may recognize Cheyenne Davis from her many years of service working in Monticello, both at the former Brickhouse Eatery, and now at Pop's Sanitation here in town. You may even recognize her as a runner up in the recent Monticello Watermelon Festival Pageant this June. What you may not know, is that Cheyenne had taken part in a pageant in Madison County in 2018, where she won “Miss Madison County”. Cheyenne has been deeply moved by the whole experience, and said, “I know it sounds kind of silly, but being in this pageant, and winning “Miss Madison County” has been one of the most incredible moments of my life. I am so touched and want to give back to the wonderful people in this community!”
Cheyenne has recently restarted her pageant platform, Kindness is a Crown, which showcases her passion about being kind to others, bringing awareness about mental health, and being a light to those around us. And with school just around the corner for so many, she has decided to set up a donation drive to help bring supplies to teenagers about to enter a new school year. She is accepting donations for pencil pouches, small bags, book-bags, school supplies, pens, pencils, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, deodorant and other supplies teenagers may need to help get them started in the new school year. “I know what it is like to not have something that you need, and I never want anyone to feel like they are lacking in any way, shape or form. I want the youth of Madison county to know how amazing they are, and every little bit helps.”
The goal of the donation drive is to ensure that teens who may have started the school year lacking in supplies can be gifted with what Cheyenne is calling “Kind kits,” which will be pouches or bags filled with anything a teenager may need to be their best version of themselves while they begin a new school year.
If you have some supplies to donate, or if you don't have the time to shop for supplies and would simply like to donate money that can be spent on supplies, there are a lot of ways to spread the kindness! Monticello boutique Soulshine Vintage will have a donation box where you can leave supply items, backpacks, pencil pouches or checks. If you don't have time to stop by the store, you can send money directly to Cheyenne via Venmo, at cheyenne-davis-22, and she will buy the supplies. Cheyenne would like to stress that any and all money that is donated will go directly towards the Kind kits for the kids.
If you have any questions, or would like to meet Cheyenne to drop off donations, feel free to contact her at (813) 808-6970. The last day to donate is Wednesday, August 4.
All donations will be given out at an Open House on Monday, August 9 at Madison County High School, by Leslie Fletcher.
The past few years have been hectic for so many people, especially in regards to kids and going to school. In the midst of so much uncertainty, having the necessary supplies to do their best in the circumstances at hand should be the last worry on their young minds. This is a way to bring a little kindness to those who just might need a helping hand. Our youth makes up our future someday. Let's make sure they are properly equipped.
