The Jefferson County Humane Society put a story in the Monticello News recently about a cat who was adopted from the shelter as a kitten 15 years ago and was relinquished by her owners back to the shelter, once again homeless. Her name is Oreo. This story pulled at my heartstrings for a few weeks and I decided to give the old lady a home for the rest of her life in my indoor/outdoor cattery. Since adopting her, she has done very well and acclimated to her new surroundings and friends easily. A success story! A few days ago, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from Patrick, a shelter volunteer. He wanted to touch base and make sure Oreo was doing well and she was happy in her new forever home. Shortly after Patrick's call, I got a thank you card in the mail for the donation I made when I adopted Oreo.
This feedback and concern is huge to us who have adopted and/or contributed to the shelter. For certain, it makes me feel appreciated and want to continue to help when I can in the future. Kudos to the Jefferson County Humane Society. Thanks to all the volunteers who work so diligently to care for the homeless animals of our county. You will continue to have me as a supporter!
