On Thursday, May 4, the Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Lady Warriors faced off with the Red Flashes of Hilliard High School for the Class 1A District Five varsity softball title at Hamilton County High School, in Jasper, Fla.
In a closely-contested defensive contest, the Lady Warriors topped the Red Flashes with a score of 3-2. After giving up one run in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Warriors went ahead with two runs in the top of the third inning. That lead wouldn't last long, as the Red Flashes tied the score in the bottom half os the third inning. The score remained knotted at 2-2 until the top half of the sixth inning, when the Lady Warriors Lady Warriors scored one run to gain their 3-2 advantage. The Lady Warriors managed to hold on during the final inning with strong defensive play, keeping the Red Flashes away from home plate and sealing their 3-2 championship win.
Freshman Harli Ray had the hot bat for the Lady Warriors, going two-for-three in the batter's box, with one RBI. Lauren Davis had the sole remaining base hit for the Lady Warriors.
Emma Vickers was highly effective in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Warriors, yielding five hits, one earned run and three walks, while striking out 11.
The Lady Warriors were scheduled to host a rematch at ACA with the Red Flashes on Thursday, May 11, in the Class 1A Region Three semi-final.
