The cold weather this winter is the test for what plants are going to survive and thrive in your yard/property. The blooming exotics such as Japanese magnolias and flowering cherries are going to be be damaged because of their early bloom. Other exotics, like the large flowering azaleas and hibiscus will also sustain freeze damage from this long cold snap. Be sure to mulch well and water thoroughly. This will protect the roots and you can prune back any dead branches
