
Laura’s Garden Notes: Gardening with one hand tied

A few weeks ago I tripped on a vine and ended up with a badly sprained wrist. Darn it! The timing was pretty bad in terms of needing two hands to keep up with a spring garden. However, having worked through and around various injuries over the years, it wasn't long before my thinking shifted and adjustments kicked in. I figured out, for example, how to use my garden fork and its matching spade one-handed, gripping the waist-high handle with the good one to work the soil then grabbing it down low by the business end to do the scooping. And it's amazing how much maneuvering an elbow can do when the lower arm is out of commission. Tasks have gone more sl
