At the August 20, 2026 BOCC meeting three Commissioners passed a proclamation honoring Charlie Kirk with no regard for the public input.
Let’s take a look at what Charlie Kirk actually represented. He opposed abortion, gun control, DEI programs and LGBTQ rights. His views do not represent the majority of the population and are extremely one sided.
In addition, he described the Reverend Martin Luther King as “awful” and “not a good person”.
Charlie Kirk was a white nationalist. Take the time to familiarize yourself with Truth Social or Turning Point USA.
Although legally the BOCC is permitted to pass a proclamation without public support…Is this what/who the citizens of Jefferson County truly want to honor? Personally, this is an embarrassment!
I can never in good conscious support this mentality and this will be remembered at the time for re-election to the BOCC.
