Lewis Benjamin Scott, Sr., of Monticello passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, in Tallahassee, Fla. Mr. Scott was born March 18, 1938, in Greenville, Fla., the son of Robert N. and Winnie V. Scott.
Mr. Scott was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monticello. He loved the Lord and was a “Christian Man.” He was a retired firefighter with the Division of Forestry, worked for T. K. Wetherall at Oakhill Plantation for 20 years and served as a trustee for Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he loved to fish. He was an expert woodworker and groundskeeper.
He is survived by his wife, Zella Scott; children, Debra Canaday (Jeff), Regina Smith (Ben), Lewis B. Scott Jr. (Nancy) and Steven Mann (Teri); sisters, Margie Mercer and Myrtis Scott; brothers, Alec Scott, Roy Scott and Bobby Scott; nine grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church in Monticello, with Dr. David Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Oakfield Cemetery in Monticello. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at Beggs Funeral Home in Monticello.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in Monticello or Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee.
